Hartzell Propeller Governor, IO-320/IO-360
Constant-Speed Props Require an Engine Mounted Governor
Constant-speed propellers require an engine mounted governor to control RPM. New engines from Van's have a governor drive and mounting pad, but do not include the governor. A governor is included in the FWF kits when appropriate.
Van's offers governors from MT and Hartzell. Both are high quality, affordable products, that can be used interchangeably. An MT governor can be used with a Hartzell prop and vice-versa.
Van's also has a control cable attach bracket that fits both Hartzell and MT prop governors sold by Vans, VA-153-PC. This (or equivalant parts) is included in the FWF kits that require it.
The PROP GOV MT P-860-4 and PROP GOV HZ 320/360 are used on rear accessory case mounted (I)O-320/360 engines with a drive ratio of 0.866:1. All 4 cylinder Lycomings sold by Van's use this drive type.
